NASA Discovers Earth-Like Planet Orbiting Proxima Centauri

Historic Discovery Raises Hope for Finding Life Beyond Earth

Astronomers from NASA have made a groundbreaking discovery of an Earth-like planet orbiting Proxima Centauri, the nearest star to our solar system, just 4.2 light-years away.

The planet, designated Proxima b, is located within the habitable zone of its star, meaning it has the potential to harbor liquid water on its surface. This discovery raises the possibility of finding life beyond our planet.

Proxima b orbits Proxima Centauri every 11.2 days and is approximately 1.27 times the mass of Earth. Its surface temperature is estimated to be between -38°C and 5°C, potentially allowing for liquid water to exist.

The discovery was made using data from the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile. By observing the slight wobbles in Proxima Centauri's motion, astronomers were able to deduce the presence of Proxima b.

This discovery has sparked excitement among scientists and the public alike. It represents a significant step forward in the search for life beyond Earth and opens up new possibilities for future exploration.
